Facebook Checkpoint

The Annoying Facebook Checkpoint

Suppose you're one of those "someone who cannot live a day without opening their Facebook account". You tried opening your Facebook account and it simply would not open. Instead, it showed the error message that goes "Your Computer Needs to Be Cleaned", along with these annoying phrases "It looks like your computer is being affected by malware. We'll help you fix the problem to keep your account secure and prevent malware from spreading to friends. Malware is a software that tries to steal personal information and causes problems when you use Facebook. Clicking or sharing links that contain spam can give your computer malware."
This is how it will look like in your face:

A lot of peeps do panic when they see this Facebook Checkpoint message. Could be the end of their world to some.

Checkpoint Crap, Anyone!?

Facebook Checkpoint is Facebook's part of making sure that no malware would post some automated junk stuff in your account's behalf. At least, that is the way I see it. Facebook Checkpoint's press release was presented last July 2012. You might still see it on their "Malware Checkpoint for Facebook" page.

How To Get Past Facebook Checkpoint!?

Unlike when they (Facebook) first implemented this stuff, it is easier to log back in to your Facebook account if this error message hits you now. All you have to do is click on the "Get Started" button. Then it will ask to install their partner antivirus brands (just do it, even if you have your own antivirus lurking in the background), and voila. You will see the "Complete Login" eventually while the antivirus provided by Facebook scans your system.
It will not be the end of the world after all. The screenshot below should give you an insight on how the whole process would go.

Further, just a friendly advise from TNTTS. Unless you use it for some serious money making business, Facebook accounts should never be taken seriously. It's just like MUDs (Multi User Dungeons) in the days of yore. I mean, where are they right now!?

Reference(s) / Test Environment(s):

  1. Tested on my worthless Facebook account - LOL
  2. Should work until Facebook change their way of handling this kind of stuff.
