RF Online Auto Target

Playpark, in collaboration with Level Up Games Philippines (which has a known reputation for having bad customer service to players who spend money on their games), recently launched the official RF Online Philippine Server. Oh, the negative comment towards Level Up Games by the way is based on my experiences as a paying customer since the first LUG came into existence back in 2002.

Note:

This tutorial is for educational purposes only and nothing more than a proof / representation of concept. The Non-Technical Technical Support or any of its sources is not responsible should your installation of Rising Force Online game becomes unstable due to overlooked duplicate keys in your mapping.
This works for RF Online Philippines and may also work on other RF Online distributions.

RF Online KeyMap Files

Although geared towards activating your RF Online character's auto-targeting capability, this article should also allow you to change the default keyboard keys assignment to most common hotkeys in the game. For example instead of pressing the J button on your keyboard to access your character's in-game Journal, you can assign it to the N key - and so on.
This game from CCR has two (2) keymap files that you can manipulate to match your definition of ergonomic in terms of positioning your fingers on your keyboard while playing.
Without further blah blah blah, here's how the procedure is done.

Modify RF Online KeyMap Files

  1. Login to your RF Online account and select the server that you want to access. Type in your FireGuard Security login. This should take you to your RF Online character selection screen. Do not select your character yet at this point.

  2. On Windows, access your Playpark folder, then RFOnline, DataTable and then en-ph. Once you are in the en-ph you should see the two (2) KeyMap files. KeyMap.dat and KeyMap_NKM.dat.

  3. Open the two (2) KeyMap files using Notepad or Notepad++ (just Google Notepad++ if you don't have it installed). You will see that these two (2) files will contain the same texts and craps shown below:
    ; Key Map

    [WINDOW]
    INVENTORY = Ctrl+I
    FORCE_WINDOW = Ctrl+F
    PARTY_WINDOW = Ctrl+P

    SHOUT_8 = Shift+8
    SHOUT_9 = Shift+9
    SHOUT_10 = Shift+0
    SHOUT_ADMIN = Shift+TAB

  4. To activate the Auto-Target mode look for the [COMBAT] portion of the two (2) KeyMap files. By default its last item will say ANIMUS_MOVE = /.
    You may just add another item that goes AUTO_TARGET = TAB below where it says ANIMUS_MOVE = /. Make sure to save both files.

  5. From here you may go back to your RF Online character select screen and then choose your character that you want to play. Bring up the game menu - press O by default and (for this guide / testing purposes) set the Auto-Targeting Setting portion to Monster. Just uncheck those check boxes where it says Bellato, Cora, Accretia.

  6. At this point, your character should auto-target the closest monster to your character every time you press the TAB key on your keyboard. Enjoy.

    Kindly take note that this edit is NOT permanent. The next time you log back in, the application will give you an error message that goes Manipulated files are found. Please restart. The game will then rewrite your KeyMap files with whatever contents it has before your edits. In this case you may repeat the whole procedure beginning with the very first step.
